This symposium will introduce clinicians to the use of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) in a variety of settings to meet client’s goals in a motivating and holistic manner.  Participants will learn how to implement AAT into their practice easily.  They will gain a thorough understanding of the necessary policies and procedures in order to develop a safe and research-based program.  Clinicians will then participate in a workshop where they will be able to practice AAT with dogs.  In addition, they will take a test to demonstrate their understanding of AAT concepts and obtain a Certificate of Training in Animal Assisted Therapy.  Limited to 60 participants.

 

Course Objectives

1.  Identify 3 steps in setting up/implementing an AAT program.

2.  Identify 5 innovative and unique treatment modalities to be used with multiple disabilities and  populations.
3.  Identify the importance of insurance and policies and procedures as well as safety techniques.

4.  Understand how to adapt and grade the use of a dog to meet the client’s needs.

5.  Discuss age and ability specific AAT interventions and measurable outcomes.

6.  Explain methodology for training own dog to participate in AAT.

7.  Explain certification process for receiving a trained dog from Power Paws for use as AAT and methodology for training own dog to participate in AAT.

 

 Meeting Schedule Overview

Plan to arrive by 7:30 am on Friday, June 22nd for Registration and Check-in.  The symposium will begin promptly at 8:00 am.  The conclusion of the symposium will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 23rd.

 

Registration

As part of your registration fee you will receive a sack lunch each day.  Please complete the online registration form, or print out the brochure in pdf format and fax it to Power Paws Assistance Dogs at 480-945-0525.

 

Registration Fee

Registration fee, travel, meals and lodging may be tax deductible if used to maintain or improve professional skills through continuing education.  Please consult your tax advisor for current regulations.

 

Continuing Education

This symposium will provide Continuing Education Units.

 

Cancellation Policy

In the event that Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and/or Power Paws Assistance Dogs should find it necessary to cancel or postpone this symposium for any reason, registration payments will be refunded.  Any expenses for registrant’s travel or associated expenses will not be refunded.

 

Refund Policy

Registration refunds will be made only upon fax or email request.  Please fax Power Paws Assistance Dogs at 480-945-0525.  All cancellation requests must be received on or before June 1st, 2007.  No refunds will be issued after this date.
